Tumbling through space and time. 40 years of the BINZ39 Foundation

In this artist's book, the BINZ39 Foundation tumbles through its 40-year history. Founded in Zurich in 1983, it has been running studio grants, an exhibition space and organizing international exchange programmes ever since. This long-standing commitment has resulted in the formation of a network that extends beyond Europe to India and the USA, tied back to specific spaces in Zurich. This anniversary book is dedicated to the foundation's unofficial motto: "Art needs space and space needs art". Around 120 contributions by former and current residents, curators and members of the board bring together thoughts, ideas and visions on the subject of "space". Together with a text by Sophia Roxane Rohwetter on space as a fleeting trickster and the foreword by the editors, the book serves as a directory of 40 years of commitment to art and opens up diverse perspectives on space as an artistic dimension.
